Point Blank’s Music Production & Composition Award is designed to help you develop your identity as a producer and composer. Designed and taught by industry professionals who’ve worked with the likes of Amy Winehouse, Shaggy, Ministry, Daft Punk, and more, this action-packed 3-month program will teach you to write and produce your own killer tracks in no time!
The first half of this program begins with an introduction to your chosen DAW (Ableton Live or Logic Pro) and leads on to explore the essential skills required to produce music. You will learn how a song is structured, how to create melodies, use virtual instruments, add effects to your sounds, arrange your tracks, use compression and EQ to finalize your mix, and much more. The second half of the program will focus on music composition: creating basslines, hooks, harmony, riffs, vocal tracks, and what it takes to publish your music as you establish your career.
When you enroll at Point Blank LA, you’ll be learning at our excellent college facility in professional studios using the latest industry tech on workstations equipped with Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Push, NI Komplete, Roland Cloud, and more. You can also take part in exclusive masterclasses from the likes of Mark de Clive-Lowe, Laura Escude (Jay Z, Kanye West), Daddy Kev (Low End Theory) and Jimmy Mac (Lorde). An Ableton Certified Trainer and Pioneer DJ Battle Championship winner, Mikhail Arce-Ignacio (Mecha) is a versatile producer, engineer, music director, DJ and live electronic performer.
A founding member of world famous rap group N.W.A, Arabian Prince has written, rapped on, and produced some of the most influential tracks in the history of hip hop in an industry career spanning almost four decades.
Starting out in the '80's, Dave's incredible adventures include Psychic TV, Anne Clark, ONU Sound System, Andy Weatherall, Lee Scratch Perry, Billy Ray Martin, with countless albums and live projects.
An award-winning composer-producer, Grant's mix of "That's Christmas to Me" by Pentatonix has over 25 million Spotify plays. He's worked with Amazon & Sesame Studios and on platinum albums and Emmy-nominated TV shows.
DJ Markman incorporates classic 90s House with futuristic R&B, UK Garage & Bassline. Ableton Certified, his live sets pay homage to the energy that made his heroes sets, artists like Adamski, Orbital and the Chems, so compelling.
After my first term at Point Blank I asked to move to a longer program, and it was the best decision. I have learnt invaluable skills from composition to mixing, and from what I was producing previously, my tracks are now sounding polished and professional. The instructors were brilliant, knowledgeable and helpful. They cared and had passion about what they were teaching, which meant they focused on the small details within the courses, a.k.a. the golden nuggets that they have learned throughout their careers. They even gave help freely when needed outside of class. I am using every tool since leaving PB, they've given more than what I expected, and I believe this is due to the excellent instructors they have. Latin Grammy Award nominee Bryan Dotel has had great success as a Tropical Reggaeton producer after graduating from PBLA, including amassing more than a million views on YouTube.
Cathleen has been dancing all her life & already accomplished a bunch of amazing things while studying at PB. She toured with Kanye West as part of his creative team and is a DJ and classically trained pianist.
PBLA Certificate student Travis is a KCRW DJ spinning lost un-classics, playful electronics, spine-snapping breaks and a quirky selection of mind-melting grooves by the pound. Served fresh weekly.
PBLA graduate Gina holds residencies in top California night clubs, tours internationally & plays festivals around the world from Rhythm & Vines in New Zealand, to Soundwave Canada & Burning Man.
Kamel aka Dead-Tones is Guy Gerber’s protege, personal assistant and tour manager. Over Summer he is based in Ibiza as Rumours' main resident, and has releases on labels including Kindisch, Motek, Dialtones Records.
Co-founder of 'A Club Called Rhonda', has organized parties in LA & beyond for the past 8 years. Known for its stylish crowd and underground vibe, Rhonda hosts up-and-coming DJs and artists alike.

None at all! Every pointblank student has access to their own fully-equipped workstation in class and during their practical studio work outside of class time. If you decide to purchase equipment for your own home studio, we will be happy to help you arrange student discounts from our leading industry partners including Apple, Ableton, Pioneer, Native Instruments, Serato, Izotope, Waves, and more.
For most 10-week courses within in this program, classes meet once per week for 4 hours (with a 15-minute break included) at one of the following session times:
10:00am – 2:00pm (Morning Session)
2:30pm – 6:30pm (Afternoon Session)
7:00pm – 11:00pm (Evening Session)
Musicianship and instrumental courses meet once per week for 2 hours each at similar times. Some programs contain up to 3 or 4 courses per quarter, so check the "Key Info" section on each program page to see how many classes you'll be attending each week. Classes are scheduled before the start of each quarter; call (323) 594-8740 for the most up-to-date information on scheduling and class availability. Our facilities are also open for student use six to seven days a week (depending on the quarterly course schedule), giving you valuable studio time to make your music and reinforce your new skills outside of class sessions.

Yes. Classes are usually available in the evening and on weekends, and we will be happy to arrange a class schedule that works around your other professional commitments. International students have different options for attending pointblank classes depending on their country of origin. These include the B2 visitor visa, the ESTA visa waiver program, and more. We do not offer F or M student visas at this time.
