Overview

If you want to kickstart your career as a singer, the 6-month Vocal Performance Certificate is for you. This program combines our 4 best singing courses, which will teach you a wide range of skills to get you ready to perform as a professional vocalist. You’ll gain experience with essential vocal techniques and harmonizing through our Singing and Advanced Singing courses. You'll create your own songs in the Songwriting course, and bolster your theory understanding in Vocal Musicianship. The courses are taught by industry professionals such as our Grammy-winning voice instructor Carol de Leon, so you know you’re in good hands.


Anyone with a desire to sing can join the program. Complete beginners and vocalists with experience are welcome. Join the Point Blank campus community and benefit from collaborating with like-minded music producers, songwriters, and musicians. Book time in our Project Studios to record yourself in a professional studio environment. Attend our two-hour Open Forum Friday sessions for additional support and tutoring from expert instructors. Here at Point Blank, we make it our priority to connect you to the music industry as you begin your journey and engage you with free masterclasses, events, and networking opportunities. Once you finish, you can also continue on into our Music Production & Vocal Performance Diploma to make the most of your new skills.

Carol de Leon Singing

Grammy Award winner Carol de Leon has bachelor's and master's degrees in voice performance from UC Riverside and CSU Northridge and deep experience as a recording artist, choir director, and singing instructor.

Mitch Kaplan Singing

An award-winning singer, songwriter, and pianist, Mitchell Kaplan has worked as a producer, songwriter, and musical director with such iconic luminaries as Sandra Bernhard, Ana Gasteyer and Cady Huffman. His songs have been performed or recorded by artists such as Chaka Khan, Thelma Houston, Sister Sledge, Sam Harris, and Martika and his songs have appeared in films such as Jonathan Demme’s “Something Wild”. His song “If I Travel Up” is the end credit song for the documentary film “Studio One Forever”.

Chloe O'Brien DJing

AKA Neia Jane, Chloe is an alternative rock/pop singer, songwriter, and producer and graduate of Berklee College of Music, studied Songwriting and Music Business. She released her debut album “Magic & Honey” in 2019 and has been releasing new music ever since.

Marko DeSantis Music Business

Lead guitarist and co-songwriter for Sugarcult, who hit the Top 40 Billboard charts three times and sold 1M+ units worldwide. Music videos on MTV & CNN, toured on bills with Green Day & Blink 182.

Jaron Lopez Composing For Film & TV, Music Composition, Studio Vocal Production

Multi-instrumentalist composer on guitar, bass, keyboard, and electronics who works in an electro jazz fusion style. Studied at Berklee, U of Maryland, & U of North Texas. Peep his recent record "Odd Times."

Daniel Brummel Chief Academic Officer

FAQs

What equipment do I need to buy?

None at all! Every pointblank student has access to their own fully-equipped workstation in class and during their practical studio work outside of class time. If you decide to purchase equipment for your own home studio, we will be happy to help you arrange student discounts from our leading industry partners including Apple, Ableton, Pioneer, Native Instruments, Serato, Izotope, Waves, and more.

When are the classes scheduled?

For most 10-week courses within in this program, classes meet once per week for 4 hours (with a 15-minute break included) at one of the following session times:

10:00am – 2:00pm (Morning Session)

2:30pm – 6:30pm (Afternoon Session)

7:00pm – 11:00pm (Evening Session)

Musicianship and instrumental courses meet once per week for 2 hours each at similar times. Some programs contain up to 3 or 4 courses per quarter, so check the "Key Info" section on each program page to see how many classes you'll be attending each week. Classes are scheduled before the start of each quarter; call (323) 594-8740 for the most up-to-date information on scheduling and class availability. Our facilities are also open for student use six to seven days a week (depending on the quarterly course schedule), giving you valuable studio time to make your music and reinforce your new skills outside of class sessions.
