Overview

In Point Blank's unique Musicianship for Producers - Level 1 (Online) course, you’ll cultivate essential skills that form the bedrock of musical mastery. This dynamic introductory course will sharpen your senses with engaging ear training exercises and transcriptions, honing your ability to recognize melodies, intervals, harmonies, and solfege. Major keys will become your playground as you delve into the intricacies of musical notation. You'll gain newfound confidence in beats and rhythms as you explore meter and subdivision. Whether you dream of producing chart-topping hits, understanding what makes your favorite tracks work so well, or collaborating with fellow musicians, we'll equip you with the tools to turn your musical aspirations into reality. This ten-week course meets for two hours per week, and is taught by professional musicians in small class sizes of 16 students or less. No previous experience required.

FAQs

How do the online courses work?

Studying online with pointblank is a completely unique experience and unlike any other online program. You are personally guided by an expert industry professional instructor and provided with regular opportunities to discuss and submit your work to get valuable feedback and analysis on your music:

  • Masterclasses: Live two-hour group sessions once a week for 10 weeks in each course, where the whole class is online with the instructor, recorded for you to watch back. Delivered from the US from 5:30pm-7:30pm PST on a weeknight.
  • 1-2-1 Sessions: Live 1-2-1 tutorial sessions (30 minutes each) between you and your expert instructor every two weeks, which you can record yourself on request. Plus, additional opportunities to meet in 1-2-1 sessions with a range of specialist instructors. You will need at attend at least three out of the five 1-2-1 sessions offered and submit the final assignment(s) for a passing grade in order to pass each course and complete your program. 
  • All live interaction is recordable for you to revisit at your leisure along, with hours of pre-recorded video and a wealth of written content and downloadable resources.

Is this course suitable for beginners?

Yes. This course caters to students who have little or no prior knowledge. Students with prior production experience can also greatly benefit from pointblank's world-renowned courses.

What are the admission requirements?

Admission into any college-level program at pointblank requires that the prospective student:

  • Be 18 years of age or older (under age 18 may be accepted only with signed parental consent)
  • Possess a High School Diploma or the Equivalent (or pass an approved Ability-to-Benefit Test)
  • Be provided a current pointblank Music School Catalog
  • Sign a School Performance Fact Sheet and an Enrollment Agreement for their program

What equipment do I need to take this program?

An electronic keyboard or MIDI keyboard controller (49 keys minimum) is required. An acoustic piano (88 keys) is also recommended, but not required. If you decide to buy additional equipment, we will be happy to facilitate student discounts for you with leading industry partners.

What support do I get during this program?

Throughout your program you will be instructed and supported by our expert team of professional music instructors. You will be able to contact them via the student forum, raise any issues that you may encounter in your courses, and receive a timely response. All of the instructors are highly experienced in making music and/or have in-depth knowledge of the music business and will be able to offer valuable advice and guidance. You will also be able to participate in weekly online masterclasses where you can raise specific questions related to the course(s) you are currently taking.
